What is it all about?
Due to the corona situation the Röderhof charity run cannot take place in its usual way this year.
Therefore we call for a „virtual run“: From 15th August to 3rd October 2020 we would like to achieve 40.075 kilometers together – that is to run once around the world.
Everyone runs by himself/herself or in little groups. On our website we collect your kilometers, greetings, selfies and the screenshots of your running apps. In this way we stay connected. Furthermore we share our stories of 12 years of charity run there.
How can I join in?
Just go running and send us your kilometers via e-mail to email@example.com or use the contact form on our website.
It does not matter when, how much, how often or how fast you run. There are no fixed places, times or distances.
Like the original charity run it is all about runnig and joining us. Therefore just run as you would like to or as you are able to – with or without walking aid, by foot or by wheelchair.
Run with your friends, your family or found a running club.
Add an extra lap before you start training with your team.
Go jogging, running, walking, hiking, go by your wheelchair around your housing block or count your kilometers while you are working or while you are on holiday.
You do not have to register and there is no attendance fee. On our website you have the opportunity to make a donation.
What can I send to you?
Most important are the kilometers you have run of course. Furthermore we would be glad to receive:
… a selfie of yourself or of you together with your running mates or
… a picture of your shoes, your wheelchair or your view while running (in case you do not want to be part of the picture) or
… a short video or screenshot of your running app or your running time or
… little greetings and an information about where you have run and how it was.

Virtual Röderhof charity run:
Together around the world for handicapped people
In 2020 the 12th Röderhof charity run takes place online.
From 15th August until 3rd October 2020 the 12th Röderhof charity run is hold. In this year this running event that has drawn hundreds of sports fans, sponsors and members of the residential home Röderhof over the years will have a virtual format. Under the slogan: „Join us in running – together around the world!“ those who are enthusiastic about running can go to their individual start with a distance and a route they can choose on their own. The kilometers of all runners are collected and added together to achieve the length of the equator which is 40.075 kilometers. The current milage, photos, videos, running distances and a lot more is published on www.roederhof-benefiz-lauf.de
Due to the Covid-19-pandamic it was not obvious if the Röderhof charity run could take place in 2020. „For a long time we did not know if this event could be carried out in its usual way this year. We would have paused this tradition reluctantly“, says Wilfried Büscher, head of the institution. „Early in June we came to the decision to realise the run virtually and inspire as many people as possible to participate!“
Everyone runs by himself or in little groups according to the current corona rules but still united in the basic idea of setting an example for community. Athletic performances do not have priority. Above all it is rather a question of commitment for the community and for the support of handicapped people. The kilometers run, photos, videos, running distances, outcoming stories, etc. can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by the participants. In addition to a large regional participation the event organizers hope to reach runners outside of Germany.
„This year’s virtual running allows us to inform more people about our job as well as the life, support and integration of handicapped people.“ (Wilfried Büscher, head of the institution)
Since 2009 the residential home Röderhof has invited people to the annual Röderhof charity run. Last year about 827 participants were registered. By now it has grown to the biggest and most popular sports event in this area and offers individual distances from 1,8 km up to 10 kilometers. Wilfried Büscher: „Next year we will have our 50th anniversary and expect that the charity run with its corresponding program will take place on our grounds again. Even though we realize this current project with pleasure and excitement, we are looking forward to a „real“ event in September 2021.“
The virtual starting signal is given on 15th August 2020 with the first runner and at the same time patron of the 12th Röderhof charity run bishop Dr. Heiner Wilmer (SCJ).

Heimstatt Röderhof (Residential home Röderhof)
The residential home Röderhof provides a residential and supporting program for mentally and physically handicapped people in line with the integration support according to SGB XII. Currently there is capacity for 236 people, which is catagorized in room for children and teenagers as well as room for adults. Within those living areas for children and adults we also provide room in two decentralized residential homes called „Haus Gertrudenberg“ in Bad Salzdetfurth and „Haus Moritzberg“ in Hildesheim.
The area of „learning and support“ is competently and individually assisted by the St.-Franzikus-Schule, an officially recognized special school with the focus on mental development, as well as a day care center which provides a daily structure for adults.
„To live a life as normal as possible“ is a principle in the pedagogical work with handicapped people. That means to respect the needs of older residents, too. These people have other requirements concerning their environment, their recreation and the institution itself.
Social participation is realized by integrative programs inside and outside of Röderhof as part of leisure activities and public events. Our vision is to allow those people we care for social participation and a maximum level of self-determination. Therefore we provide a large and differentiated range of support and assistance. Curative, nursing and stabilizing measures as well as measures for personal development are planned and carried out on the basis of modern pedagogical standards and long-time experience.
